Ocular Nystagmus: involuntary movement of the eye is not always just a tic

We are led to believe that the involuntary eye movement - a phenomenon that occurs more frequently in school age - is nothing but a tic, whose nature is therefore attributable to any other, possible, not tied to correct problems functioning of the eyes.
However, it is worth remembering the existence of ocular nystagmus, the involuntary eye movement that is counted in the field of eye diseases.
This problem, therefore, not negligible.
But, how it manifests exactly this disease?
How to recognize it and, most importantly, what to do to cure it? Let\'s find out.

Ocular nystagmus: nature and symptoms
Eye nystagmus is an oscillating movement, rhythmic, involuntary eye.
Already this definition of its main features brings with it that allow you to recognize it in a rather clear.
Such a disorder may have different clinical features for which also varies from patient to patient symptoms: in common, there is, in any case, a more or less significant discomfort in vision.
The main symptoms of ocular nystagmus are quite simple: it is mainly, as we have said, of uncontrolled movements, repetitive and rapid eye.
The eyeballs, in some cases, may even oscillate when the head moves.
In addition, the following symptoms may occur: sensitivity to light, difficulty in night vision, dizziness, loss of balance and, even, muscular pains in the neck and shoulders.
With time and in the most severe forms, can lead to a reduction of visual function, however, if the disease occurs during childhood, the vision can remain more stable, because the brain is able to adapt more easily.

types of nystagmus
just talk about nystagmus would not entirely correct: in hindsight, there are different types of this disease.
They differ substantially depending on whether it is physiological or pathological nystagmus.
Another important distinction is that between sensory nystagmus, linked to the eye, and acquired nystagmus, connected, however, to neurological disorders.
The first type is a problem that can occur from birth, the second, however, can develop during the first months of life for problems in visual development.
It must be said, however, that the nystagmus, in most cases, is associated with the type of ocular diseases, many of which take place for another, for genetic transmission.

Diagnosis and treatment of nystagmus
At the onset of the symptoms, such as described above, it is important to intervene to time in order to allow to determine the possible presence of ocular nystagmus and its exact type.
The treatment of nystagmus varies, in fact, according to the type: in that congenital is not possible to permanently cure the disease, that is permanent, even if there is to say that, at least, it is not serious as the time and does not involve the loss of vision.
In other cases, however, it is possible, as well as a duty, to cure the disease, because the danger is to experience a very significant reduction of vision.
In this case, it is customary to resort to glasses, contact lenses and to certain drugs.
Finally, you may need surgery to reduce the size of the nystagmus.

For there are many solutions, it has to undergo a specialist referral in the presence of any early symptoms.
